Democracy

Perhaps the greatest legacy that the Ancient Greeks left was the establishment of democracy. Democracy is the system on which our Government is established and is based on the view that the people have a right to play a role in the governance of their home land.

Cleisthenes

Ephialtes

Pericles

These three men are said to be pivotal players in the establishment of Democratic rule in Greece.

SHORT TASK

Research ONE pr more of the  men in detail outlining their lives, acomplishments and contribution to democracy.

In our study of Democracy we will be investigating not only its origins but we will also explore how it can impact on a society. To do this you'll study the famous Athens vs. Sparta divide.

Not only will you get to study these two different forms of democracy, you will get to experience first hand both types of Democracy in action by participating in our very own Athenian and Spartan assemblies.

And most exciting of all, you'll be able to understand why Democracy is an ideal that so many people around the World thousands of years later are prepared to die for and in the process, appreciate how lucky we are in Australia.
